What is “Trump Derangement Syndrome?”

US Senator Rand Paul used the phrase, “Trump Derangement Syndrome,” in an interview with Wolf Blitzer on CNN following Trump’s meeting with Vladamir Putin in 2019.  A woman named, Esther Goldberg, used the term in an op-ed of “The American Spectator” as early as 2015.  Charles Krauthammer, a late political columnist and commentator, had coined a similar term, “Bush Derangement Syndrome,” in 2003.  Alan Dershowitz, a legal scholar and attorney, coined a similar term about Israel in the 1990’s as well.

As soon as Donald Trump made his famous announcement from an escalator in 2015 that he was going to run for office, he was jeered at.  His sheer involvement in politics was all it took to spark controversy.

The origins of the frowning woman pictured could go back even further.

Trump Derangement Syndrome (TDS) informally refers to an extreme, disdainful perception of Trump.  Examples include stretching events of his life into extraordinary claims against him, making up lies to smear him, disgracing or belittling his achievements and contributions, only focusing on the negatives about him, using extraordinary claims and buzzwords against him as a basis for further ones, attempting to legally cramp, incriminate, deligitimize and disqualify him from presidency at every possible turn, and accusing him of doing all of those very things.  Such dishonest attempts to railroad the American people and get an innocent man dressed up so fast for a wall of shame in the history books are phenomenal.  It is a fishing expedition like no other.

TDS also sometimes involves refusing to be presented with anything positive or that contradicts news sources about Trump.  Individuals also tend to lash out in these instances and cancel, bully and harass others that follow Trump.  It’s actually similar cancel culture to what happened to the Jews in the 1930’s **before** concentration camps.  They lost their businesses, business connections, gentile friends, and they were bullied and harassed long before going to the camps.  Celebrities today demonstrate examples of the more modern TDS behavior.  Whoopi Goldberg, for example, lashed out at Judge Jeanine Pirro, wouldn’t listen to her, and had her kicked out on an episode of the daytime talk show, “The View.”  TDS is a mass hysteria loosely similar to Beatlemania.  It’s the opposite of fandom though.

An example of Trump Derangement Syndrome is Russia Collusion. An adverse, Russia, disinformation dossier was bought and paid for by Hillary Clinton’s campaign and used by federal investigators to obtain a FISA warrant to spy on Trump’s 2016 campaign.  It was also part of a larger effort by Hillary and the mainstream media to allege that Trump colluded with Russia to steal the 2016 election.  Many people bought into it and it fueled their hatred of Donald Trump.  Yet Hillary Clinton still has the brazenness to show her face in the media.

A more recent example of TDS just this year was when Bill O’Reilly suggested on Chris Cuomo’s News Nation show that Joe Biden pardon Hunter Biden, his son, and Trump to reduce the hatred between the left and the right and get back to policy.  Cuomo replied by saying well the problem with that plan is that Trump wouldn’t do it if the shoe were on the other foot and that it’s infuriating.  Cuomo totally missed or ignored O’Reilly’s point and replied with something  that just keeps the problem going.  Furthermore, he was also flat out wrong.  Trump could have shut down the Robert Mueller investigation if he wanted to, but he didn’t.  He could have also pressed law enforcement to refer Hillary Clinton for prosecution where FBI Director James Comey neglected to refer Clinton’s gross negligence, but he didn’t.  Cuomo’s comments were just flat out wrong, irrelevant and imprudent.  They demonstrate that the real issue with O’Reilly’s idea is that as long as Trump is involved in politics, the left are likely going to keep fueling white hot TDS.  It happened before 2016, during, and has been that way since.  Even if in the unlikely event that Biden pardoned Trump, there has already been criticism of Biden by the far left over Israel.  People can always, of course, choose not to continue hating Trump, but everyone’s relationship to DC is a personal thing.

Trump Derangement Syndrome has escalated civil discord in America to levels not seen since the Civil War.

“Where does TDS come from?”  Dr. Phil asked Trump the question in an interview recently.

In a nutshell, TDS comes from Democrats, the Mainstream Media, and RINO republicans. They are the ones looking to expand their networths and legacies.  They simply hate him for getting involved in politics.  They crave power.  The target market is the American public.

Much of DC and the media mob are jealous of Trump.  He runs circles around them on solving so many issues where they walk a fine line.  He’s not afraid to take decisive action on the border by building a wall rather than just talking about it.  One might be surprised to hear that Hillary Clinton actually campaigned on building a fence, and other democrats talked about it too, but when push came to shove and Trump had the wall built, they tried to push back and stall, and resist on increasing border security.  It was xenophobic and racist to have border security all of a sudden.

Many politicians go to DC with hopes of grandeur, money, fancy drinks and caviar.  A lot of them spend years in politics and government trying to build their names, wealth, families, and some even trying capitalize on their time in the military.  Many of them come from extensive legal backgrounds.  There are and have been good politicians.  It is impossible to say they are all bad.  A good thing about politics is that in a controlled setting, they can have many of the debates and discussions on sensitive issues that need to be had for Americans who might otherwise be squaring off against each other more often than not.  Becoming a politician is all well and good only until another side comes out.  Some on both sides have sunk low or turned back when they got close to making a difference.  McCain campaigned against Obamacare for years and then voted against repealing it all of a sudden when the opportunity arose.  Many Democrats have gone even lower in recent years.

Most politicians are not billionaires like Trump.  Many want to accumulate lots of cash for themselves and their linneages and live lavish lifestyles.  With Trump, they have to adapt to change in political nuance that is not going their way.  Their workflows are being checked, and they’re resisting it.  They also don’t have the populist capacity to lead that Trump does and many politicians are jealous.  They have a way of doing business and working the system that is threatened by Trump.  For Senator Mitch McConnel, there is no brilliance to contribute.  He just goes through the motions to pass continuing resolutions bills that they barely read and keep a racket of wreckless, piggyback spending going.  For Democrats, it’s about buying votes, treating everyone and everything including their purported American values like numbers.  They want open borders to get more votes and seats in the house and scale the electoral vote.  They see Trump as a threat to their way of life and their legacies, so they do their best to step on him to get to the top and make names for themselves. It’s very cuthroat.  Through campaigns and left wing media consumption, people get hooked and triggered by consuming the political theater.

Some of them and/or the consituents they’re supposed to represent may be afraid to face the future.  They’re more afraid of facing the unknown than continuing to kick a dead horse in racism.  What is the unknown?  Impact of technology advancements.  AI.  Foreign relations with neighbors and adding a little more balance to give and take.  Perhaps the more things change, the more they stay the same.  We have said and done a lot, yet we still live in a mass grave of a planet where we fade away and disappear.

Perhaps the Democrats have sunk so low and are struggling to continue justifying hanging onto power.  They are bound to stubbornly double, triple, and quadruple down on their positions.  Some people celebrate the dirty verdict handed to Trump in the Manhattan case, even though he was denied due process being told what crime he was charged with and convicted of among other things.

Perhaps some people have seen so much while growing up in the 20th century, the 60’s, Vietnam, three assassinations, 9/11, and they have other things going on in their life that they’re too scared and fixed in their beliefs to consider anything beyond the lone gunman explanation to everything.

As Marco Rubio and others have pointed out, the Democrats have not accepted a single Republican victory since 2000.  Some of us may still remember vicious “F Bush” graffiti written in stalls and Al Franken referring to Ann Coulter as a “bitch.”  And of course, you were racist if you disagreed with gay marriage.  Those were all seeds.

At some point, the stakes sold in campaigning got higher and DC has turned into vindictive divorce court.  Obama and his State Department did not send security to Benghazi per requests.  He was “offended” at Mitt Romney for calling him out over it in their second 2012 debate.  There was a congressional oversight investigation into the failures.  A pattern of “you investigate me and I will investigate you” and “you incriminate me and I will incriminate you” seemed to follow.  Someone on “The View” said enough Benghazi but couldn’t get enough Russia Collusion.

Obama’s policies and the public institution of gay marriage were defended with the race card.  Winning political arguments could be done by accusing the other person of racism and not doing their research.  The term, social justice warrior, came about.  Then, racism was linked with Trump, opposing the Democrats, and supporting Trump’s policies.  As Senator Tim Scott has pointed out, the left have weaponized race.

One hasn’t even gotten to the encouragement by Democrats to lash out at Trump supporters and the media’s and Kamala Harris’ downplay of violence committed by BLM and Antifa.

Schools and factions indoctrinating students is a factor too.  And as Netanyahu said in his interview with Dr. Phil, there is a fusion between Radical Islamic hate and Anarchist liberalism.

Conclusion

Trump derangement syndrome is a bandwagon of hatred that many have jumped on, defended with desperate, explosive anger and cut off relationships over.  It is also a campaign strategy that has been used to weaponize our media and justice system against real people who have lived the American dream and just want to make a difference in DC.  People will probably be asking about it for years to come.
