As Edward Bernays wrote in his book Propaganda; “By playing upon a old cliché, or manipulating a new one, the propagandist can sometimes swing a whole mass of group emotions.”

When you think of a propagandist as the modern day politicians, who spends all their time advocating for their candidacy. I use this political spectrum as a benchmark example of dishonesty and how disruptive and dishonest tendencies can have massive consequences. When Politicians are dishonest, people could lie and become even the President of the United States.

Even the writing calls to the ethics of journalism when it states; “the New York Times choosing to call President Donald J. Trump a liar in its news columns as well as on the editorial pages. National Public Radio made a different decision, refusing to use the word in its news coverage;” Truth is almost subjective, especially when you are given a subjective viewpoint of an objective reality. Rather than just shown what reality is. When it comes to speaking it doesn’t really matter what you say, as much as how you say it. So if the media chooses to show only a portion of what is said, and then change the narrative behind how it is meant to be said, that will change the entire message. So honesty is important, the media saying President Trump is lying, does not in fact mean he is, or has lied. It is simply them stating their opinion about information, which I think is unethical and dishonest reporting. Almost lazy when you really think about it. In the video it takes about how people are ok with skimming, i.e., being comfortable with lying in order to save or earn a dollar. Justifying it and rationalizing with their justifications rather than just being honest to begin with. This can also relate to the political realm, specifically candidates thinking it is ok to skim votes, or to misuse campaign donations in the name of “charity”. The video showing how people on average are more inclined to cheat more and more over time, shows the trends in why society seems to be ok with lying. If someone was a criminal and lied their way to the Presidency that could be a problem.
